Abortion

What is an abortion?

Abortion surgery in Turkey is a medical procedure performed to terminate a pregnancy. This procedure is applied to terminate an unwanted or unhealthy pregnancy. Abortion is recognised as a legal and safe medical procedure in many countries, but legal regulations may vary by country.

Abortion Methods

  • Vacuum aspiration is the emptying of the uterus using a suction device. This procedure is performed under local anaesthesia and usually takes 10-15 minutes.
  • Dilation and Curettage (D&C): It is used in the later stages of pregnancy (usually after the 12th week). The cervix is dilated and the uterus is scraped clean with an instrument called a curette.

Post Abortion Period

  • Physical Recovery: Mild cramping, bleeding and discomfort are normal after an abortion. These symptoms may last for a few days to a week. Painkillers can provide relief during this period.
  • Emotional Recovery: Emotional reactions after an abortion can vary. While some women feel relief, others may experience sadness, guilt or stress. In this case, it should be remembered that it is important to get support.
  • Follow-up Check-ups: A health check-up is recommended a few weeks after the abortion. This is important to check for any complications after the procedure.

Abortion can be a difficult decision for many women and it is important to receive support and guidance during this process. When deciding to have an abortion, all options should be carefully considered, an informed decision should be made in line with legal and medical information, and it should be performed by specialised physicians in healthy environments. It is also important to receive support during the emotional and physical recovery process after abortion.
